Concern for Iraola: Stunning Liverpool exit rumour emerges regarding"world-class"player

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a shock move to Premier League rivals Manchester City this summer, in a potential big blow.

It is no secret that the Argentine was well below his best for the Reds last season, cutting a tired figure who struggled to have the same influence as he did in 2023/24 and 2024/25.

Mac Allister found form again at the 2026 World Cup, however, helping Argentina reach the final, and after a rest, he will hopefully return to his best for Liverpool.

According to journalist Matt Thielen on X, though, City are now looking to strike a stunning deal for the 27-year-old, eyeing him up as a potential replacement for Rodri:

“Manchester City have made contact with Alexis Mac Allister’s camp to explore a potential move for the Liverpool midfielder. Mac Allister is on City’s shortlist of potential reinforcements should Rodri leave the club.”

Alexis Mac Allister wouldn’t leave Liverpool for Man City…right?

It would come as a huge shock at Liverpool if Mac Allister decided to join one of their biggest rivals this summer, unquestionably tainting his legacy at Anfield.

He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, which would be easier to stomach, but while some have claimed he is past his best, he remains a key man who was lauded by journalist David Lynch last year:

“He is absolutely world class at everything that you need in a central midfielder, and then the fact that he was at the heart of the [Tottenham] performance that sealed [the title], I thought was very fitting because he’s been absolutely fantastic all season.”

Granted, there is a risk that Mac Allister is again not the player of old this season, and has peaked, but the hope is that Andoni Iraola gets the best out of him, ensuring there are plenty of legs around him.

On his day, he is a world-class midfielder who combines technical excellence with tenacity, and seeing him in a City shirt would be grim, likely strengthening their hopes of winning the Premier League title.

We’re taking this one with a pinch of salt, though.
