Arsenal face £145m Bradley Barcola decision after Vinicius blow
Bradley Barcola to Arsenal could become increasingly relevant after Vinicius Junior committed his future to Real Madrid, leaving Mikel Arteta with one fewer elite option in his search for another left-sided attacker. The Gunners already admire Barcola, but Paris Saint-Germain’s reported £145million valuation creates a very different decision.
Vinicius had emerged as Arsenal’s most ambitious attacking target this summer. However, his new Real Madrid contract has now closed that route and forced sporting director Andrea Berta to reassess the market.
Sky Sports reported on Friday morning that Arsenal’s attacking options are narrowing, with Barcola identified as one player already on the club’s radar. Arsenal have not made a fresh bid or opened new negotiations, but the circumstances around their search have changed significantly.

Barcola offers many of the qualities Arsenal have been trying to add on the left.
The 23-year-old has pace, can attack space behind a defence and is comfortable operating from wide areas. PSG’s own records highlight the productivity he has already shown in Paris, with 26 goals and 29 assists across his first 100 appearances for the club.
Yet price is likely to dictate whether Arsenal take their longstanding interest any further.
Sky Sports says PSG value Barcola at around £145m. Arsenal were prepared to explore an extraordinary package for Vinicius, but their refusal to match Chelsea’s £117m move for Morgan Rogers illustrated that Berta will still walk away when a valuation becomes uncomfortable.
That approach makes Barcola fascinating.
Arsenal may believe he has the ability and age profile to improve significantly under Arteta, but paying close to a British-record fee would require the club to view him as a transformative signing rather than another attacking option.
Arsenal cannot ignore their changing left wing
The decision is complicated further by Gabriel Martinelli’s position.
ReadArsenal reported on Friday morning that Martinelli has attracted interest from Galatasaray, while Vinicius’ decision to remain in Madrid has removed another possible replacement from the market. Selling Martinelli before securing an elite alternative would therefore leave Arsenal exposed.
Arteta does already have Christos Tzolis. The summer signing has made an encouraging start to pre-season, but asking him immediately to carry a title-winning side’s left flank would represent a sizeable gamble.
There is also no need for Arsenal to panic. ReadArsenal reported on Thursday that the club already feared Vinicius would remain at Real Madrid, so Berta should have had time to prepare alternative routes.
Barcola is one of them.
Why Arsenal may wait on Bradley Barcola
The important distinction is that Bradley Barcola to Arsenal is not currently an advanced transfer.
Earlier reporting made clear Arsenal appreciate the France international, but PSG’s valuation and Liverpool’s interest have complicated the situation. Sky Sports also reported last week that Liverpool were preparing to formalise their own approach after preliminary discussions with Barcola’s representatives.
Arsenal therefore face a choice.
They can test PSG’s resolve for one of the most exciting wide players available, trust Tzolis and Martinelli for another season, or wait for a different opportunity before the transfer window closes.
Vinicius staying in Madrid has not suddenly made Barcola an Arsenal signing. It has, however, made the club’s existing interest considerably more significant.
For Berta, the question is now whether Barcola is good enough to justify entering a market that could eventually demand close to £145m.
