New Orleans Saints rookie Brock Rechsteiner has been handed a mysterious six-game suspension by the NFL.

The 2026 NFL offseason has been a turbulent one for the Saints of late. Recently, do-it-all offensive star Taysom Hill confirmed that while he is not retiring from the NFL, he would not be returning to the Saints for the 2026 season after nine years with the team. The news that preceded Hill's confirmation also dealt the Saints a huge blow when it was announced that star defensive tackle Bryan Bresee would miss the entire season after tearing his ACL in practice.

More news has come out of New Orleans this week, too, after it was reported that rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner had been handed a six-game suspension by the NFL.

Rechsteiner, the son of WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Scott Rechsteiner, better known as Scott Steiner and Big Poppa Pump, was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent following New Orleans' rookie minicamp in May.

The 23-year-old appeared on the league's transaction wire this week, with the NFL handing him a six-game suspension for which no reason has been given.

The Saints wideout will still be able to practice during training camp, as well as play in preseason games. Should he make the 53-man roster, his suspension will begin after that.

Rechsteiner played his college football at Jacksonville State University, joining the Gamecocks back in 2021 as a tight end before making the move to wide receiver.

He redshirted his first season before seeing his role with the team expand over the years, going from limited game time to catching 36 passes for 383 yards and five touchdowns during his senior year.

The six-game suspension likely kills Rechsteiner's hopes of making the New Orleans 53-man roster. New Orleans recently locked up wide receiver Chris Olave to a $143 million, four-year extension, with him set to be quarterback Tyler Shough's top target.

They also drafted three rookie wide receivers during the 2026 draft in the form of Jordyn Tyson, Bryce Lance, and Barion Brown, likely making them locks to make the roster. Devaughn Vele should also make the roster, which likely leaves one spot left in the Saints' wide receiver room.

With Rechsteiner set to miss six games, there is almost no chance the Saints keep him on their roster when they come to trimming their roster down to 53.

However, with him still allowed to practice during training camp, Rechsteiner could convince New Orleans that he is worthy of a practice-squad position over the next few weeks.

The Saints went 6-11 last year in Kellen Moore's first season in charge, with things looking much brighter for New Orleans thanks to the emergence of Shough down the stretch.

In nine starts, Shough went 5-4 as New Orleans' starter, throwing for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also ran for three touchdowns.
