Liverpool has been predicted to finish ahead of Manchester United in the 2026/27 Premier League, with Andoni Iraola backed to improve on the Reds’ showing last season.
The new campaign is now just a little over two weeks away, with Liverpool set to kick off against Newcastle on August 23 at St James’ Park. Before then, there are three more friendlies against Monaco and Como, with new boss Iraola just waiting for one more player to return to training.
He could do with some new signings to add to the mix though. Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet remain the only new additions this summer, with neither having played any minutes thus far as the latter continues to be an injury worry.
Virgil van Dijk could therefore end up being the only fit senior center-back available for the start of the new season, while a replacement for Mohamed Salah has still not been found, although Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye are both under consideration.
Nevertheless, Iraola is being predicted to improve on Arne Slot’s final season in charge and beat bitter rival United to a place in the top four.
Betarades supercomputer BETSiE has made its predictions for the final standings ahead of the start of the 2026/27 campaign. The model has simulated the league season 100,000 times, accounting for all match results from pre-season and the previous campaign to project outcomes based on pre-season expectations, fixture difficulty, and underlying performance metrics such as xG for and against.

The final predicted table sees Liverpool finishing in fourth and securing a Champions League spot as it finishes around five points ahead of United.
The Reds are placed just behind Chelsea in third, while Manchester City beats defending champion Arsenal to the league title. Tottenham, despite spending big this summer under Roberto De Zerbi, is only predicted to finish sixth, ahead of Brighton, Newcastle and Bournemouth, while Aston Villa suffers a big drop into 10th.
At the bottom end of the table, Ipswich, Fulham and Hull are predicted to be relegated, with the latter propping up the table as Coventry just manages to secure survival.

In terms of title chances, Liverpool is given a 4.1 percent probability of reclaiming the Premier League crown, with City (52.9 percent) and Arsenal (34.1 percent) the clear favorites for the title race again.
The Reds are handed a 57.1 percent probability of finishing in the top four, while a top five finish - which could be enough for a Champions League place like the previous two seasons - is ranked as a 71 percent chance.
Liverpool.com says: At this moment in time, if you offered most Liverpool fans that table, they’d absolutely take it, no questions asked.
Right now, a top-four finish feels like it could be a big ask when you look at how much work still needs to be done in the transfer window. Hopefully, Iraola can make a difference after last season’s poor showings.
