Liverpool may have taken the lead in the race for Ibrahim Mbaye, but the Reds could now be facing more competition for the teenager’s signature.
Mbaye has emerged as a new option as Liverpool looks to bolster its attacking options, with a replacement for Mohamed Salah still being sought. Bradley Barcola is the primary target, with the French international seemingly edging closer to an exit from Paris Saint-Germain.
He’s not the only winger who could be leaving the European champions though, with an exit expected for Mbaye as the 18-year-old looks to take the next step in his career and secure more regular playing time.
Liverpool.com understands he is one of a number of options under consideration by the Reds, with attacking signings the current priority at Anfield despite the growing injury problems in defense.
No bid has yet been made for Mbaye, but according to French outlet L’Equipe, Liverpool has the upper hand in the race for his signature.
Bayer Leverkusen has previously been reported to be in direct talks with PSG over the young winger, with the French club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi even said to be involved in discussions, but it’s now suggested that the Reds may have overtaken their German counterparts.

There is another club said to be in the running though, and Borussia Dortmund is also claimed to be in a strong position for Mbaye.
RB Leipzig has also been mentioned previously, having eyed him up in a deal that may have seen Yan Diomande head in the opposite direction before he completed his move to Real Madrid.
Mbaye’s representatives, including his agent Jorge Mendes, are said to be waiting for PSG name its asking price, with the player yet to choose which club he wants to play for next season.
The teenager though is apparently convinced of a move away from his current club, with PSG having already completed the signing of Maghnes Akliouche, while it is also said to be in talks with Ajax’s Mika Godts, both of whom would bolster the options in the wide areas.

Mbaye could be one of two players to make the switch from the French giant to Liverpool this summer. With PSG making progress in its attacking signings, Barcola could also be edging closer to an exit, with Luis Enrique’s side already claimed to have dropped its asking price in some quarters.
Liverpool.com says: Barcola looks to be the priority for Liverpool at the moment, so we may have to wait and see on Mbaye, but it could be quite the swoop if it manages to land both players.
Having said that, the Reds need to get a move on. We’re just over two weeks away from the start of the new season, and it’s still not clear who will be playing on the right, while there is currently only one fit senior center-back and right-back, with signings clearly needed in defense.
