Chelsea handed Jhon Lucumi boost as €25m defender makes transfer choice
Chelsea have been handed encouragement over Jhon Lucumi after the Bologna defender reportedly placed the Blues second among his preferred destinations. The Jhon Lucumi Chelsea transfer remains dependent on Juventus, but Stamford Bridge could become an option if the Italian giants fail to reach an agreement.
Lucumi has made Juventus his preferred destination as he pushes for a new challenge away from Bologna.
However, Quotidiano Sportivo reported on Friday that Chelsea remain second in the defender’s thinking. The Colombian would consider a move to Stamford Bridge if negotiations between Bologna and Juventus break down.
Juventus have renewed contact with both Lucumi’s representatives and Bologna, but an agreement has still not been reached. Bologna are asking for around €25million, while Juventus have explored including Fabio Miretti or Juan Cabal in negotiations.

Chelsea’s position is particularly interesting because Xabi Alonso already has a crowded group of centre-backs.
That picture could soon change. ReadChelsea reported on Thursday that Benoit Badiashile has given the green light to join Napoli, with talks progressing over a loan containing an option to buy worth around €20m to €23m.
Badiashile’s departure would create additional room in Alonso’s defensive group, although there is currently no indication Chelsea have submitted a formal offer for Lucumi.
The 28-year-old is also approaching the final year of his Bologna contract, strengthening the Italian club’s incentive to find a permanent solution this summer. Chelsea have already explored his situation, but Juventus remain ahead in the race.
For the Blues, the important development is Lucumi’s willingness to consider Stamford Bridge.
A Jhon Lucumi Chelsea transfer still requires several pieces to fall into place, but Chelsea now appear well positioned if Juventus cannot satisfy Bologna.
