Liverpool could be in the market to sign a new centre-back during the summer transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano providing the latest update.
Andoni Iraola's side lost Ibrahima Konate earlier in the summer following the expiration of his contract.
That leaves Liverpool short of options in the centre-back position, and their situation was worsened during pre-season after Joe Gomez suffered an injury.
Iraola confirmed that Gomez would likely be missing for the start of the Premier League season, although Liverpool do have two young options coming through.
Jeremy Jacquet was signed earlier this year and joined in the summer, while Giovanni Leoni is recovering from a long-term knee injury.
Signing a new defender would certainly be beneficial for Liverpool heading into the new season, so it'll be interesting to see if things ramp up over the next few weeks.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Liverpool's potential pursuit of a new centre-back.
Gomez's injury could prompt Liverpool to head into the market later this month, with the Reds having a lack of cover at the back.
Liverpool's current options and incredibly young and inexperienced, with Leoni and Jacquet yet to play for the club since arriving.

Liverpool are also in the market to sign a new forward during the summer transfer window, particularly with Mohamed Salah heading through the exit door.
The Reds have held talks with the agent of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as they look to find a replacement for Salah, according to Romano.
Romano has also confirmed that Liverpool have held talks with the representatives of another PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye.
The Senegalese international is a younger alternative to Barcola, but it wouldn't be a surprise if both players head through the exit door this summer.
