Sheffield Wednesday confirm latest summer signing as contract length revealed

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of former Everton midfielder Tyler Onyango on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old, who was released by the Toffees earlier this summer, has joined the Owls on a three-year deal and becomes the club’s 13th signing of the summer transfer window.

Onyango, a versatile operator, featured as a trialist in Wednesday’s final pre-season friendly of the summer last weekend, coming off the bench in the 4-0 defeat to Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

Capable of playing in midfield and defence, the former Forest Green Rovers loanee is no stranger to Wednesday sporting director Simon Wilson after previously spending time on loan at Stockport County in each of the last two seasons.

Following confirmation of his move to Hillsborough, Onyango, who is primarily a central midfielder, told the Owls’ website: “I’m absolutely delighted. What a club and a great opportunity for me. I can't wait to get going. It's been a great first few days and I'm really happy.

“I know the project and the direction the club is going. I've seen what's happened over the last few years and for me it feels like a new chapter. This is a club moving in the right direction and that’s something any player would be excited to be part of.

“As a young player, to join a club that has big ambition is massive. I know a couple of the lads already but the rest of the group have taken to me really well. It's a really welcoming club and somewhere I want to stay and be a part of.”
