Chelsea have reportedly reopened negotiations with Crystal Palace over a potential move for highly-rated midfielder Adam Wharton as the club continues its search for long-term reinforcements in the centre of the park.
According to well-informed Chelsea insider Simon Phillips, the Blues have renewed discussions with Palace in an attempt to explore the possibility of signing the England international before the transfer window closes.
While no agreement has yet been reached, fresh contact between the clubs suggests Chelsea remain serious about adding Wharton to their growing list of young elite talents.
Wharton has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most accomplished young midfielders since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers. His composure in possession, passing range and tactical intelligence have attracted admirers across Europe, with Chelsea viewing him as a player capable of becoming a cornerstone of their midfield for years to come.
CHELSEA‘s recruitment strategy under their current ownership has focused heavily on acquiring young players with significant long-term potential, and Wharton is understood to fit that profile perfectly.
Club officials are believed to see the midfielder as someone who can dictate the tempo of matches while also strengthening the team’s defensive structure.
Any deal, however, is expected to prove difficult. Crystal Palace are under no pressure to sell one of their prized assets and are believed to value Wharton at well in excess of £80 million, with some reports suggesting the Eagles would only consider offers approaching the £100 million mark.
Palace regard Wharton as a central figure in their project and remain keen to keep hold of the England international despite growing interest from several Premier League rivals.
Chelsea may also need to balance their spending through player sales before launching a formal bid. Phillips reports that discussions between the clubs have involved multiple players, with CHELSEA and Palace maintaining an open dialogue over several potential deals this summer.
The Blues have already been active in the market but continue to monitor opportunities to strengthen key areas, particularly in midfield, where Wharton is considered one of the club’s priority targets
