Tottenham-linked Ligue 1 starlet is prioritising the Liverpool project.
Tottenham Hotspur have focused largely on outgoings since last signing Sandro Tonali for a £100 million deal from Newcastle United in July.
Several academy products have either been sold or loaned out, with the latest being Ashley Phillips to Middlesbrough. Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario are also likely to leave the club before the September 1 transfer deadline. As far as the incomings are concerned, Roberto De Zerbi has a clear agenda of bringing in a couple of attackers to improve the creativity and goals of his side.
Tottenham are tracking wingers and strikers around Europe, with the N17 bosses expected to make multiple additions to their forward line before the new campaign gets underway. Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup has emerged on the North London club’s radar, while Savinho continues to be the No.1 target to improve the wide areas of the squad. Another player linked with a move to White Hart Lane is Paris Saint-Germain starlet Ibrahim Mbaye.
Tottenham-linked PSG winger giving priority to Liverpool project
Spurs have expressed an interest in signing Ibrahim Mbaye given that he was considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer. There have been reports suggesting that the North Londoners have enquired with PSG about the teenage prodigy, who represented Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mbaye originally made headlines in Paris after breaking into the senior squad under manager Luis Enrique, becoming the youngest player to start an official game in the club’s history. Regardless of gaining minutes with the senior side, the 18-year-old spent much of last season behind experienced and proven international stars.
The desire to clock regular minutes and establish himself is believed to be driving the winger’s willingness to scour potential opportunities elsewhere in Europe. Well, Tottenham aren’t the only club interested in the player. Liverpool are also believed to be keen on Mbaye.
Now, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, the Reds have made contact with Mbaye’s new agent, Jorge Mendes, over a potential move to Merseyside. The PSG talent also has proposals from Bundesliga clubs, but he is giving priority to the Liverpool project under new boss Andoni Iraola. RB Leipzig had been close to signing the Senegalese international before that move collapsed.

Mbaye move to trigger Cody Gakpo exit?
Mbaye seems to have shown enough flashes of potential at PSG to become a concrete target for Liverpool. The Reds have lost Mohamed Salah on a free transfer to Trabzonspor, and Hugo Ekitike to a serious Achilles injury, leaving Andoni Iraola light up front. And then there is interest in Cody Gakpo as well.
Over the last few days, it has been reported that Spurs are stepping up their pursuit of Cody Gakpo and are in direct negotiations with Liverpool. The Merseyside club have been reluctant to sell the Netherlands international all summer, but with them making contact with Mbaye’s agent over a possible move, a scenario appears to be developing where they could sanction Gakpo’s sale to Tottenham.
