Everton told to forget about ‘Italian’ transfer target
Everton have been urged to abandon their pursuit of Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe, after the Italian club’s director insisted any further offer should be rejected outright.
The Toffees have already seen an opening bid of around €35m turned down for the 23-year-old, who has been floated as a potential option to freshen up Everton’s attack given the uncertainty still surrounding Iliman Ndiaye’s future.
According to Sport Witness, Bologna director Marco Di Vaio has urged the club to stand firm, arguing Bologna are “more vulnerable than ever” to a sale given the money already banked elsewhere this summer.
Bologna have made close to €80m in player sales already this window, easing any financial pressure to cash in further, with defender Jhon Lucumí also attracting interest from Manchester United and potentially adding another €20m on top.
Di Vaio wants any approach for Rowe rejected “out of hand,” with reports suggesting agents have already explored a possible move to Turkey.
For Everton, it’s a setback — Bologna’s stated resolve doesn’t rule out a return with an improved bid before the window shuts, particularly if Ndiaye’s own situation with Al-Hilal is finally resolved one way or the other.
But for now, Rowe looks set to stay in Serie A.
