**Harvey Elliott spent most of the 2025/26 season on Aston Villa’s bench due to boardroom decisions and deserves a much happier 2026/27 campaign.**
The midfielder moved to Villa on a season-long loan which included an [obligation-to-buy clause for £35m if he made 10 appearances for the club](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jul/30/harvey-elliott-liverpool-second-chance-aston-villa-loan).
Due to Villa’s lack of desire to make the move permanent, Elliott wasted away on the bench all season but is now back at Liverpool.
The arrival of Andoni Iraola and his history of rotating his squad heavily to manage the intense workload of his play style opens the door to more opportunities at Anfield for Elliott.
That said, he may prefer to move somewhere he will be given a guaranteed starting role.
Harvey Elliott tipped for RB Leipzig move after Aston Villa upset
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking on the [Inside Track podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/7Atmejn4fSX2w7S8NBVKdv), former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has suggested that a move to RB Leipzig may be on the cards.
_“Yeah, I think the bad blood is certainly enough to get him away from Liverpool, and I think, I’m afraid, Leipzig are the favourites from what I’ve heard,”_ he said.
_“I think that’s where it will end up. There’s a possibility he’ll go to Leeds, but Leipzig are still the favourites, and I think if they can come to personal terms, that’s what would make it happen._
_“Leeds is going to become an attractive option for a player like Harvey, but I think it might be good for him personally to get out of England._
_“We’ve seen before that many players can do very well in Germany now, and the English players, more and more going out there, starting to realise that they’re really increasing their value._
_“I think the Bundesliga would suit him in his style of play very well. I still rate him as a player, I’m amazed Liverpool did what they did, and I think they’re going to see him go on to be a very good asset for someone else.”_
Elliott has been mistreated and deserves whatever he wants next
---------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool may not be the ones guilty of sidelining Elliott for most of last season due to a pesky clause in his contract, but the 23-year-old certainly deserves better than to spend another season wasting away on the bench even if he is a boyhood Reds fan.
If Elliott wants to move to the Bundesliga to play for RB Leipzig and receives assurances over game time, it would be a good move for him. I certainly don’t think he will be begrudged the move from any level-headed Liverpool fan – I know I wouldn’t.
The No.19 may not be everyone’s cup of tea in terms of play style, but he is also a lot better than he gets credit for.
I hope he stays and forces his way into Iraola’s thinking.
