Manchester City have shown an interest in Barcelona youngster Tommy Marqués, who has decided to leave the Camp Nou this summer.
Mundo Deportivo report that the Catalan midfielder is now looking to leave Barcelona to gain experience away from the club.
Manchester City interest
According to the newspaper, Tommy Marqués wants to leave Barcelona this summer, particularly with them now pushing to sign Rodri from Manchester City.
At this moment in time, all signs point to a permanent exit that would include a buy-back clause. There are three interested parties at the table: Manchester City, Sporting Braga and Borussia Dortmund.
The newspaper explains that Rodri’s arrival ‘paves the way’ for Marqués to leave in the coming weeks. Manchester City have already held talks regarding a permanent deal for him. They would then send him on loan to Girona.
They see the youngster as a prospect for the future and sending him to Spain would allow them to give him playing time in an environment that they trust.
Manchester City competition
However, the club pushing hardest at this moment in time Sporting Braga. Their manager, Carlos Vicens, wants to add the Barcelona midfielder into his project. He is a man who has ‘championed’ young talent for a while and would welcome the youngster.
Borussia Dortmund have also shown interest. The German club maintains a good relationship with Barcelona, particularly after the recent deal for Karim Adeyemi. That could facilitate negotiations for Marqués in the coming weeks.
Barcelona, for their part, had initially planned to keep the 19-year-old this summer. The plan was for him to replace Marc Casadó, who is also set for a loan move. Now, however, it appears that he will be the one leaving the Camp Nou instead.
Where his next destination is, remains to be seen. But Manchester City are one of the options on the table at this moment in time.
