Practice Observations 8/7
](https://www.buffalorumblings.com/post/hs7suHHZr1Z2)
My wife is a St John Fisher employee so I was able to coat-tail along with her on their yearly Fisher Family Day at camp. I am very fortunate.
**_Disclaimer_**_: There is so little that is truly meaningful that comes from camp. Every great play by one side is likely also a bad play by the other side. It is nearly impossible to assess the trenches in this setting. Most are just working on technique and trying not to get hurt. Some players are using it to try things that they wouldn't normally in a game. Brady even told us that sometimes they tip the defense with the call on offense to see how the offense will react. And visa versa._
**Warmups**
* Punt returners: Mecole Hardman, Dante Pettis, Mike Tomczak, Skyler Bell. Didn't see any muffs
**First 11v11**
* no Max Hariston today. IGB got all of the first reps at CB
* No Dion (vet rest). As a result, Tylan Grable (1st in) and Jude Bowry got some 1st team reps at LT
* Dorian and Bernard 1st team. Did not see KEO at 1st team for this session
* 1st 4 receivers all day were Moore, Shakir, then Coleman and Palmer (more Coleman than Palmer). That is also the order that they led the individual drills
* Alford was predominantly playing the slot for the 1st team. Not sure I saw anyone else
* IGB slipped on coverage on Coleman. Pass to Coleman, he caught it (?) but it looked like he might have bobbled it then he flipped it back and it fell to the ground. weird. Was that supposed be a hook and ladder?
* Mixed in some 2nd teamers with the 1st team on 11v11 (Geno, Damar, Solomon, Kani Walker)
* Tylan Grable in with Josh at RG not OT? Seemed like it but it happened really fast.
* Palmer nice grab
**11v11 (mixing in some 2nd teamers with 1st stringers)**
* Kani walker 2nd team at CB (he looks the part of an NFL CB.
* TD Shakir, Geno Stone badly missed the tackle.
**11v11 (all 2nd-4th stringers)**
* Bruno Fina played at OC
* Chase Lundt at OG
**Short Yardage work**
* Austin Corbett at ot?
* Jude bowry false start
* Refs at practice
* Formation with 1 RB and 2 Wrs (Moore and Shakir) in backfield for short yardage. The 2 WRs did a bunch of motion and fakes. Seemed interesting. Looked like they would have the option to pass in this formation
* Didn't see much (any?) at FB for this session. Lots of passing out of short yardage
**More punting**
* **Jammers/gunners**: Trent Sherfield, Jordan Hancock, Keleki Latu, Kani Walker, Sam Franklin, Ja'Mori Maclin, Jordan Dunbar, Ian Wheeler, Stephen Gosnell (might have missed some. many of the players were wearing their jerseys scrunched up above their shoulder pads so it was hard to see their numbers)
* **Punt Returners**: Dante Pettis, Mecole Hardman, Mike Tomczak, Skyler Bell. Didn't see any muffs
**More 11v11**
* Damar as 3rd safety along with Bishop and CJGJ. Then Hancock came on too. This was their standard formation for this session. Lots more running plays and heavier offensive packages
* Dee Alford got beat bad (slipped? stumbled?) by Palmer for nice deep seem route and catch
* Alford seemed to get hurt and went off the field
**More 11v11 (all 2nd-4th stringers)**
* Gore hook and ladder
* Bell missed a tough extended catch
* Gosnell bobbled but caught a deep pass from Buechele
**After Practice**
* Josh went all the way around the stadium and did high-5s with the fans.
* Shakir stayed on after practice and worked with Hardman (? wasn't sure because they took their jersey's off. Could have also been Maclin)
* Chubb stayed after and was working with Danna
**General Observations:**
* Keon seemed reliable (except for that one hook and ladder failed play, but not sure what happened there)
* Skyler Bell was 2nd or 3rd team all day. He "dropped" a tough but makeable semi-contested extended catch. But otherwise seemed OK.
* Geno Stone scares me. I would take Damar 100 times out of 100 over him.
* Didn't see much of Jalon Kilgore with the 1s
* OL was getting pushed back a lot in pass pro. Saw both Anderson and Corbett get roller-skated back a couple of times, but it is so hard to watch OL/DL. Take it with a grain of salt. If I did watch the OL, those were the two I was focusing on so this observation may not be fair to them.
* As far as PR, it seems like they will have someone make the team entirely because of PR unless Bell wins the job. But Bell seemed to get the least amount of reps. If not, it is also possible that they just have Shakir fair catch the ball again. Those of us (including myself) that were hoping for Kilgore or Coleman winning the job so that we don't have to have a roster spot for PR may be very disappointed. I get it. PR is one of the toughest positions skill wise, but so few want to do it because they don't want to be pigeon-holed in that role. Whoever does it (unless they just fair catch it like Shakir) will likely see a decreased role in offense/defense. Hmmm...
