The Detroit Lions made Jahmyr Gibbs the highest-paid running back in the NFL after giving him a three-year, $67.5 million contract extension. With the deal signed, Gibbs revealed on Friday the first thing he plans to purchase with all the money he just made.
The 24-year-old ball carrier crashed NFL Network's interview with teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown at training camp. St. Brown asked Gibbs what his first purchase will be now that he's signed the deal to remain in Detroit for the long haul. At first, Gibbs wasn't sure, but the first thing that came to his mind was FIFA packs for the massively popular EA Sports FC video games.
“Obviously, first off, awesome to have you back in practice. We've missed you,” St. Brown said. “You just signed your big deal. The fans wanna know… What's the first purchase?”
“Ahh, I don't know,” Gibbs admitted. “I might open some FIFA packs, or something.”
While his contract was announced at $67.5 million over the course of three years, Jahmyr Gibbs has the opportunity to earn up to $75.75 million through incentives. $51.5 million was guaranteed upon signing. His deal is slightly higher than Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson, who just signed a three-year, $66.75 million extension.
With a new deal in the bag, expectations are high for Gibbs to play at a high level in the Lions' offense. He's been nearly unstoppable in the first three years of his career so far, and there is no reason to believe he will slow down anytime soon. He finished last season playing all 17 games for Detroit, recording 1,223 rushing yards, 616 receiving yards (career-high), and 18 total touchdowns (13 rushing, five receiving).
