Arsenal are assessing alternative attacking targets after seeing their ambitious pursuit of Vinicius Junior come to an end with the Brazilian signing a new long-term contract at Real Madrid.
The Gunners had explored a blockbuster move for the 26-year-old throughout the summer, but Real Madrid officially ended the speculation by tying one of their biggest stars down until 2032.
Attention has now shifted to other options as Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta continue their search for another elite forward before the transfer window closes.
According to Miguel Delaney, Arsenal are considering three leading alternatives following Vinicius’ decision to remain in Spain.
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is understood to be among the names admired internally, with Arteta a long-time admirer of the Argentina international.
However, a deal would be extremely difficult to complete.
Alvarez remains a key figure in Diego Simeone’s plans and has also attracted interest from Barcelona, making any transfer one of the most complicated of the summer.
Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola also continues to feature prominently on Arsenal’s shortlist.
The France international has enjoyed another impressive campaign and fits the profile Arsenal have been targeting on the left flank.
Recent reports from France, however, have suggested Liverpool are currently further advanced in their pursuit after reaching a verbal agreement with the player.
PSG are also demanding around £130 million, a valuation that Arsenal have so far shown little willingness to match.
Another player under consideration is Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye.
The Senegal international impressed despite the Toffees’ inconsistent campaign, combining direct running, creativity and versatility across the front line.
Ndiaye has previously attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but his performances in the Premier League and at this summer’s World Cup have further enhanced his reputation.
Arsenal’s search for another attacker comes despite an already active summer in the transfer market.
The Premier League champions have strengthened several areas of Arteta’s squad, including the signing of Christos Tzolis following Leandro Trossard’s departure, while Bruno Guimaraes is expected to become the club’s latest marquee addition after an agreement was reached with Newcastle United.
Even so, Arteta is keen to add another high-quality option capable of operating from the left wing or across the frontline.
With Vinicius now firmly out of reach, Arsenal’s recruitment team are expected to intensify work on the remaining names under consideration as they look to complete another statement signing before the transfer window shuts.
