João Pedro has welcomed Chelsea’s reported signing of Danny Welbeck, describing the veteran striker as one of the most influential figures in his career and backing him to make an immediate impact both on and off the pitch at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking about his former Brighton & Hove Albion teammate, Pedro said Welbeck has been a “very important person” in his life, highlighting the guidance and support he received from the experienced forward during their time together on the south coast.
The Brazilian believes Welbeck’s leadership qualities will be just as valuable as his performances on the pitch, particularly for CHELSEA’s young squad as they continue to build under their current project.
‘Personally, Danny is a very important person for me in life,’ Pedro told Chelsea’s official website from the club’s pre-season training camp.
‘When I came to England, I didn’t speak English, but he always tried to be around me to support me and help me develop. This will now be the third time that we have played together and I think, as he did with me in the past, he will give support to everyone in the squad.
‘Danny is this guy; he is very helpful and wants the best for everyone around him and for the team.
‘Everyone knows that he is a top player. I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again and I think he will be a very good person to have in the group.’
Beyond his leadership credentials, Welbeck would also provide valuable depth in attacking positions, offering Chelsea another experienced option capable of playing centrally or in wider roles.
For Pedro, however, the biggest asset Welbeck brings is his character.
The Brazilian credits the striker with helping him settle into English football and believes Chelsea’s young players will benefit in much the same way.
As CHELSEA continue to reshape their squad, Pedro is convinced Welbeck’s arrival would strengthen the club not only through his footballing ability but also through the professionalism, leadership and unity he can bring to the dressing room.
