D'Andre Swift
D'Andre Swift
D’Andre Swift, like the rest of us, just watched multiple big-name running backs receive massive paydays. A few months back, the 2027 free agent class appeared to be loaded at the running back position. However, De’Von Achane and Breece Hall both received long-term extensions earlier in the offseason, and now Bijan Robinson, Jonathan Taylor, and Jahmyr Gibbs all received their well-deserved big deals.
Just like that, D’Andre Swift is now the best running back set to hit the open market next year. While he is not nearly as good as the aforementioned players, he is a starting-caliber running back who may feel a little left out after teams across the league spent big on the position. The Bears probably won’t extend him (at least, not at the rate he could get on the open market), as seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai played well as a rookie and could earn a larger share of the workload in 2026. With this in mind, Swift could request a trade so he can get some type of long-term financial security before officially entering his age-28 season.
D’Andre Swift Could Request Trade Following Running Back Extensions
Unfortunately for D’Andre Swift, it’s hard to think of any team that is a running back away from serious contention. While elite talents like Taylor, Gibbs, and Robinson are still hard to find, average to above-average starters like Swift are still not all that in demand. If the running back requests a trade, he might not find many interested suitors and could end up playing out his deal with the Chicago Bears.
A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, D’Andre Swift spent his early years in a rotational role with the Detroit Lions before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. Making the first Pro Bowl of his career, Swift finished his lone season in Philadelphia with 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 229 attempts while adding another 39 receptions for 214 yards through the air. With his help, the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl but ultimately came up short against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Following this successful season, D’Andre Swift signed a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears. While his first year with the club didn’t go too great, he bounced back under head coach Ben Johnson. Starting and appearing in 16 games, the running back finished the season with 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns on 223 attempts.
