Nicolas Jackson Chelsea transfer could be delayed after £117m Villa deal
A Nicolas Jackson Chelsea transfer to Aston Villa could be delayed until later in the window because of UEFA’s accounting rules.
Villa remain interested in the striker, but the timing of Morgan Rogers’ £117million move in the opposite direction could complicate how a quick Jackson deal is treated financially.
Villa have been considering Jackson as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes.
However, talkSPORT reports that Villa could deliberately wait before completing a move because Rogers only recently moved from Villa Park to Stamford Bridge.
UEFA’s 2026 financial regulations state that transfers involving players moving in opposite directions between the same clubs must be assessed as possible exchange transactions.
Deals completed within 45 days of each other are one of the factors UEFA considers.
The complication does not prevent Villa from signing Jackson.
However, if the two transactions were deemed to form an exchange, UEFA’s accounting rules could restrict the profit Villa are able to recognise from the Rogers sale.
That gives Emery’s side an incentive to consider the timing carefully.
UEFA’s official regulations confirm that transfers completed within 45 days can contribute towards them being classified as an exchange transaction.
Chelsea and Villa already have a dialogue over Jackson.
ReadChelsea reported in July that Jackson was discussed as a possible Villa target during negotiations between the two clubs.
The Senegal international has since returned to Alonso’s squad following his loan spell at Bayern Munich, but his long-term position remains uncertain amid heavy competition in attack.
Villa may yet emerge as his most realistic destination.
For the Nicolas Jackson Chelsea transfer, however, financial timing could now become almost as important as agreeing the fee.
