Liverpool are poised to submit an opening bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, but expect the offer to be rejected by the French champions. PSG have placed a lofty price tag on the 23-year-old.

The Champions League winners were initially reluctant to part with Barcola, who has two years remaining on his contract, but have reinforced their flanks with Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco. Nevertheless, it has been reported that PSG have a lofty £145.6million asking price for their star.

It has been suggested that Luis Enrique's team could soften their stance to allow Barcola's exit for £128.5m. PSG's pricing has been informed by the transfers of Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson this summer, and their determination has likely been bolstered by the £120m fee RB Leipzig commanded from Real Madrid for Yan Diomande.

Nevertheless, the Reds are now ready to step up negotiations with PSG, according to L'Equipe. They will submit an official offer in the region of £98m, expecting it to be rejected.

Barcola has become Liverpool's primary transfer target this summer, with new boss Andoni Iraola eager to bolster his attacking options out wide. The former Bournemouth boss has confirmed the position is a priority.

Liverpool have found progress in the summer window somewhat laboured, with a £35million agreement for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz representing the only notable piece of business. The Merseyside club have also seen the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet after agreeing a £55m move in January.

Barcola has contributed 39 goals in 152 appearances for the club since his move from Lyon three years ago. He has forged a productive partnership with Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue under Enrique's stewardship, yet remains eager to make the switch to Liverpool.

Barcola has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Liverpool, and a transfer appears increasingly achievable. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is spearheading negotiations, with Luis Campos acting on behalf of PSG and agent Moussa Sissoko representing Barcola's interests.

L'Equipe reports that Liverpool are not actively seeking alternatives to Barcola, which speaks volumes about their commitment to securing the Frenchman's signature.

"There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players," Iraola explained last month. "A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.

"But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what's the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things."
