Arsenal news today: Bruno Guimaraes, Gabriel Jesus and Dortmund latest
Arsenal news today centres on Bruno Guimaraes moving closer to his official unveiling, fresh uncertainty surrounding Gabriel Jesus and Mikel Arteta welcoming several senior players back before Borussia Dortmund visit the Emirates. Here are the key Arsenal developments to know on Saturday morning.
The Gunners are entering the decisive stage of pre-season, with Dortmund visiting on Sunday before Como and Manchester City follow during a busy final week of preparation.
Andrea Berta also remains active in the transfer market, with one major incoming deal approaching completion and Arsenal continuing to work on possible departures.
Bruno Guimaraes appears to be only an official announcement away from becoming an Arsenal player.
The Brazil international has completed his medical and reportedly signed his contract on Thursday night, following Arsenal’s £75million agreement with Newcastle United.
ReadArsenal reported on Friday that Guimaraes has now put pen to paper and is set to be announced.
Fabrizio Romano also said the deal was ready to be confirmed “very soon”.
There has been no official Arsenal announcement yet, so supporters are still waiting for the club to unveil Arteta’s latest midfield addition.
When it arrives, Guimaraes will join a midfield already containing Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard and Christian Norgaard.
Gabriel Jesus future takes another twist
Jesus could be one of the senior players leaving before the window closes.
Fresh reports on Friday linked Napoli with the Brazilian, with Romano reporting that Jesus’ new representative met with the Serie A club. Jesus is understood to be open to playing in Italy, while Arsenal would only consider a permanent departure.
However, the situation became less straightforward later in the evening.
Jesus’ representative Giovanni Branchini subsequently denied that transfer negotiations had taken place, saying his visit was connected to Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri rather than discussions over the Arsenal striker.
Napoli’s interest therefore requires some caution.
Arsenal’s position is clearer. ReadArsenal previously reported that the club have placed a £20million asking price on Jesus, whose contract expires next summer.
A permanent offer could still create an opportunity for Berta to reshape Arteta’s attacking options before September.
Arteta has also received positive news on the training pitch.
Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres are back in the picture ahead of Sunday’s Emirates Cup meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
The quartet were given additional time away following their World Cup involvement as Arsenal managed a staggered return throughout pre-season.
talkSPORT reports that all four are now available to rejoin Arteta’s preparations.
Their return is particularly important with competitive football approaching quickly.
Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August before beginning their Premier League title defence against Coventry City.
ReadArsenal previously detailed how Arteta’s staggered return schedule would shape the final weeks of pre-season.
Sunday should now give him an opportunity to reintegrate several important players.
For Arsenal, the next few days could bring both progress on the pitch and one of the biggest transfer announcements of their summer.
