Aggie Beever-Jones gives Chelsea clear answer after 13-minute hat-trick

Aggie Beever-Jones gave Chelsea another reminder of why she can have a much bigger role this season by scoring a 13-minute hat-trick in Saturday’s 7-0 pre-season win over Auckland FC.

The 23-year-old struck in the 10th, 13th and 23rd minutes at Eden Park as Sonia Bompastor’s side made an emphatic start to their summer programme.

It was only a friendly and the level of opposition must be considered. Even so, the manner of Beever-Jones’ finishing provided an encouraging early sign after significant change across Chelsea’s attack.

Aggie Beever-Jones gives Chelsea another centre-forward option

Chelsea started Beever-Jones through the middle, flanked by Sandy Baltimore and Alyssa Thompson.

She did not need long to take advantage.

Chelsea’s official report of the 7-0 victory described how a long passing move created the space for her opener before Sjoeke Nusken’s reverse pass released her for the second.

The third followed from close range.

Three different opportunities, three finishes and a hat-trick completed before the game was 25 minutes old.

Beever-Jones has already demonstrated that she can score at a much higher level. She became the first Chelsea player to score in each of the opening four WSL matches last season and also found the net in the League Cup final victory over Manchester United. Chelsea’s season review shows she made 24 appearances across all competitions in 2025/26, including 17 in the WSL.

The question has increasingly become how big her role can be.

Chelsea demonstrated their faith last month when Beever-Jones signed a new contract until 2030. ReadChelsea covered the academy graduate’s long-term extension, which secured the future of a player who has progressed through the club since joining at nine.

Saturday offered an early indication that she intends to push for more.

Chelsea attack has changed significantly

Bompastor has a very different collection of forwards to manage this season.

Sam Kerr, Catarina Macario, Guro Reiten and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd have all left during a substantial attacking rebuild.

Chelsea responded by adding options including Melvine Malard, while Thompson and Lauren James remain capable of playing across the front line. ReadChelsea reported Chelsea’s £850,000 signing of Malard last month, giving Bompastor another player comfortable centrally or from wider areas.

Mayra Ramirez also provided another encouraging moment in Auckland.

The Colombian was introduced for Beever-Jones after 64 minutes and completed the scoring late on, registering her first goal since returning from the injury lay-off which heavily disrupted last season.

Competition will therefore be significant.

That does not diminish what Beever-Jones can offer.

She gives Chelsea a mobile centre-forward who can press, combine with the players around her and attack space behind defences. More importantly, she has increasingly shown the composure required when chances arrive.

Saturday’s second goal was perhaps the best example. Nusken opened the defence with one pass, but Beever-Jones still had to finish from an angle and did so cleanly.

Pre-season will bring much tougher examinations than Auckland.

Chelsea’s next comes against an A-League Women All-Stars side in Sydney on Wednesday, and Bompastor will continue distributing minutes across her squad.

Beever-Jones has nevertheless made the first statement.

After a summer of considerable attacking change, Chelsea may not need to look very far for one of the players capable of taking greater responsibility in front of goal.
