Former Liverpool star Darwin Nunez once fueled transfer speculation with a visit to see Ronald Araujo at Barcelona, with the defender now set to make the move to Anfield.

The path from Liverpool to Barcelona is a well-trodden one at this point, with plenty of stars turning out for both clubs during their careers.
Whether it's modern-day heroes like Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho or some earlier moves for the likes of Pepe Reina and Javier Mascherano, the two giants of soccer have had some connection.
It's set to be reignited once again with Ronald Araujo set to join Liverpool on a season-long loan from Barcelona this summer, becoming the first player to directly move between the teams since Coutinho's switch to the Nou Camp in 2017.
The defender's loan includes a buy option clause in his deal, which could see the transfer become permanent next summer, but until then he will be looking to make as much of an impact as possible at Anfield.
Araujo also becomes the latest Uruguayan international to feature for Liverpool, behind recent stars such as Suarez and Darwin Nunez.
The former played alongside the defender for both club and country, as Suarez gave plenty of advice on how to improve that could prove valuable to Liverpool this season.
Araujo has also played alongside Nunez, albeit only for the national team, but there were rumors that the pair could've reunited on the club stage as well.
Back in 2024, the striker was linked with a surprise switch to Barcelona, after doubts grew over his place at Liverpool amid growing frustrations.
After the forward deleted all posts of his time with the Reds on Instagram, he then posted a picture with Araujo on his story after visiting the defender, only deepening those discussions of a potential transfer to the Nou Camp.

That move, however, never came about as Nunez stayed for another year before making his exit from Liverpool in 2025 to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
After a rocky year there, the striker could be on the move once again, as he looks set to leave the club after he was unregistered from the league competition to make way for Karim Benzema last season.
Links persist over his next move, with rumors once again starting up over a potential move to Barcelona as a low-cost alternative to someone like Julian Alvarez, while there have also been links to a reunion with Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor.
If Nunez does eventually end up at the Nou Camp, then it won't be the reunion with Araujo he'd be expecting, ahead of his own transfer switch to Liverpool.
However, it continues the path between the two clubs, with plenty of stars now showing up in both the red of Liverpool and the blue and red of Barcelona.
