Newcastle United keen to sign £59m Manchester City forward
Newcastle United have a lot of holes in their squad at the moment. And one that gets overlooked at times is their forward line, which has never recovered from the exit of Alexander Isak last summer.
Nick Woltemade made a great start to life in the Premier League, scoring four goals in his first five games in the English top flight. But over time, his form went completely cold and by the end of the season, he was even played out of position at times.
On the other hand, Yoane Wissa managed to score just three goals across all competitions last season. So, it would be risky for the Magpies to go into the next season with this forward line.
Interestingly, it looks like a forward from Manchester City has caught their eye. Could a move to St James’ Park be on the cards for him?
Newcastle United keen to sign Man City forward
According to Caught Offside, Newcastle United are keen on Omar Marmoush. One source said regarding the matter:
“Newcastle know they need to do some serious business up front. Their forward signings last summer haven’t done it, there are already serious doubts about Nick Woltemade’s future, and Marmoush is someone they’ve got high up on their list.
“He won’t come cheap, but Newcastle are under pressure to make a splash like that now, after recouping so much from player sales. There hasn’t been an approach yet, but it’s one to keep an eye on, for sure.”
So, an approach has not been made by Newcastle United so far. But this might be a situation worth keeping an eye out on moving forward.
Is Marmoush the kind of player who can make an impact at Newcastle United? Or would he be a high-profile signing from a big club who might not be good enough to make a meaningful difference?
Omar Marmoush has faced a tough time at Manchester City
Marmoush’s stellar form at Eintracht Frankfurt had convinced Manchester City to sign him in a £59 million transfer. In the first half of the 204/25 campaign, he had scored 20 goals in 26 appearances for the German club.
Marmoush has failed to replicate those numbers in a Manchester City shirt though. He has scored 16 times in 61 appearances for the club. Naturally, it is understandable that an exit might be on the cards.
Obviously, Manchester City’s team is notoriously tough to get into. That does not mean that he could not turn out to be a success story elsewhere.
Of course, a lot will depend on how much Manchester City want to part ways with Marmoush. If they want to recoup the £59 million they paid to sign him, it might be a bit unrealistic. But a fee in the region of £40-50 million could be realistic.
