Chelsea star cleared of all doping bans

Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared of all doping bans ahead of the next season

Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk is all set to play for the club next season, as per recent news. The Ukrainian left winger has been cleared of a possible ban after his doping charges were resolved.

Mudryk cleared of all charges

Mudryk will not be handed a four-year ban for doping violations, as reported by SkySports. The 25-year-old left winger was banned for four years in April 2026. Mudryk appealed against the verdict with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. His appeal was successful, and the four-year ban was removed.

Mudryk joined **Chelsea**in 2023. Before that, he was part of Shakhtar Donetsk. He joined the youth academy in 2016. In 2018, he was promoted to the senior team. In between, he also played for Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv under different loan spells between 2019 and 2021. He returned to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Apart from that, Mudryk made his Ukraine U16 debut in 2016. He played for Ukraine at multiple levels until he made his senior debut in 2022. He was part of the Ukranian squad which made it to the semifinals of the 2023 UEFA European Under 21 Championships.

Why was Mudryk handed the four-year ban?

In December 2024, Mudryk was accused of doping violations. A low concentration of meldonium [which is banned in sports] was found in his sample, for which the Football Association provisionally suspended him until further notice. In June 2026, FA charged him with anti-doping violations. Subsequently, in April 2026, they announced a four-year ban from the Premier League for the Ukrainian left-winger.

However, Mudryk didn’t accept the verdict and challenged it in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The panel accepted that had he submitted his sample now, the amount of meldonium wouldn’t have resulted in his suspension, as per the changes in the WADA procedures. Since the problem was solved, Mudryk was no longer ineligible, and he could return to the sport.

Mudryk has been vindicated. However, the journey has just begun. It would be tough, if not impossible for him to find his place in the Blues’ squad for the next season.

Future gameplan for Mykhailo Mudryk

Now that Mudryk has been cleared, he will be preparing for the next season. It would be interesting to see if Xabi Alonso retains him next year, or lets him out for a transfer. However, the journey has just begun for the Ukrainian winger. It’s been more than a year since Mudryk played any kind of football. It won’t be easy for him to get back on track. However, the Ukrainian left winger is hopeful of giving his best.

Chelsea have seen it all last year. From unstable management to inconsistent performances, there was nothing that the West London club did not face in the 2025-26 season. However, Alonso is hopeful of a better performance next year. He wants the Blues to regain their position as the European powerhouse. The Spanish manager is ready to whatever it takes to achieve it.

Chelsea are aggressively buying one player after the other for the next season. Xabi Alonso wants a stronger, fitter side for next year. The West London club have already signed players like Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, and Danny Welbeck. If they manage to retain Mudryk for the next season, it would be a bonus for the team’s attacking lineup. It remains to be seen if Mudryk is equally interested in continuing with the Blues or not.
