Major midfield arrivals often arrive after weeks of complex negotiations. Official confirmations bring an end to prolonged speculation and allow the player to begin a new chapter. Emotional farewells from the departing club sit alongside warm welcomes at the new destination.
Captains who have driven their previous side forward bring leadership and proven Premier League quality. Four-year contracts provide stability for both player and club. Statement signings of this magnitude signal clear ambition for the campaign ahead.
Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a deal worth £75million. The Brazil international has joined the Premier League champions on a four-year contract after a protracted summer transfer saga.
Guimaraes becomes Arsenal’s fourth addition of the window and the most expensive midfielder over the age of 28 in football history. He had agreed personal terms earlier in the summer and was given permission to leave Newcastle’s pre-season camp in Spain to complete his medical in London.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Guimaraes said: “This is one of the toughest decisions of my life. To the supporters, thank you will never be enough, but I say it with all my heart. I will always be proud to have been part of this club’s journey. Thank you for everything.”
Arsenal’s sporting director added: “We are delighted to welcome Bruno Guimaraes to our club. Bruno is a player with a great mentality and great quality, who will bring strong leadership to our squad. With Bruno joining us, we are further strengthening the heart of our team. As we have all seen, Bruno can play as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player.”
The 28-year-old joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 and made 195 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 31 goals. He captained the side and was instrumental in their 2025 Carabao Cup triumph. Guimaraes has also been a regular for Brazil, contributing significantly at the recent World Cup.
Supporters will welcome the arrival of a midfielder known for his progressive passing, ball-winning ability and leadership. Guimaraes is expected to form a strong partnership with Declan Rice and add depth to Mikel Arteta’s options. The deal represents one of the major statements of the summer as Arsenal prepare to defend their Premier League title.
Further details on his integration into the squad will emerge in the coming days. The Brazilian will now begin working with his new teammates as pre-season continues.
