Atletico Madrid open training session: Lookman expected to start against Man City
Atlético Madrid held an open training session in front of the media and supporters on the eve of their blockbuster friendly against Premier League giants Manchester City.
According to Spanish sports dailies AS and Marca, former African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman is in line to start against City, if Saturday morning's training session is anything to go by.
The session was overseen by manager Diego Simeone in challenging weather conditions.
When the Argentine coach unveiled his team for the practice match, he fielded a lineup featuring Domínguez, Le Normand, Hancko, Dani Martínez; Carlos Martín, Koke, Hjulmand, Obed Vargas; Lookman and Mendoza.
Lookman is expected to be deployed in attack against Manchester City, with Alexander Sørloth and Julián Álvarez yet to join Atlético's pre-season camp after representing Norway and Argentina respectively at the 2026 World Cup.
The Nigeria international made an impressive start to pre-season, scoring Atlético’s opening two goals in their 4-1 thrashing of Getafe in their opening friendly.
Lookman also started Atlético's second pre-season fixture against Manchester United, playing 62 minutes as the Spanish side suffered a 2-1 defeat.
