Moises Caicedo has welcomed Chelsea’s decision to sign Danny Welbeck, describing the veteran striker as an influential figure in his career and backing him to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.
Welbeck completed his move to Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion last week, signing a two-year contract with the London club after a standout campaign on the south coast.
The 35-year-old scored 14 goals in 40 appearances for Brighton last season and arrives at Chelsea with more than 400 Premier League appearances to his name. His move represents a notable shift in recruitment strategy for a club that has traditionally focused heavily on signing younger players.
Caicedo knows Welbeck well from their time together at Brighton, where the pair were team-mates before the Ecuador international completed his move to CHELSEA in 2023.

Welbeck has already indicated that he is eager to contribute beyond his performances on the pitch, with his leadership qualities likely to be an important part of his role.
For Caicedo, the reunion also provides an opportunity to work again with a player who played a significant role during his development at Brighton.
The Ecuadorian midfielder has since established himself as one of Chelsea’s most important players and has become a senior figure within the squad. He signed a new long-term contract earlier this year and has also taken on captaincy responsibilities during his time at Stamford Bridge
CHELSEA will hope Welbeck can reproduce the form that saw him enjoy one of the most productive seasons of his career at Brighton.
