Everton target Jonathan Rowe has closed the door on a possible move this summer, insisting that he is happy at Bologna.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s printed edition on Saturday has an interview with the 23-year-old. He appears determined to remain where he is for another season.
Rowe shuts the door
The newspaper explains that Jonathan Rowe recently attended their interview and insisted on speaking Italian. This, according to them, ‘dispels any suspicion’ that he is a forward with one foot out the door.
The winger has found himself a target for several clubs this summer, with Everton at the front of the queue.
They came knocking at Bologna’s door, but the Italian side turned down a €35m offer. That tallies with similar reports that Sport Witness have covered from Italy over the past few weeks.
Focus on Bologna right now
Rowe’s name is one that is constantly mentioned in the Premier League. For now, he is giving the impression that another year at Bologna is on the cards first. Indeed, they asked him directly about his future.
“I’d say so,” he replied when asked if the transfer matter is ‘closed’.
“Right now, I’m a Bologna player; this is a great club with a clear vision and a new project that I’m 100% focused on. I feel like I belong here; I’m not thinking about anything else, and nothing else interests me. In fact, you know what?”
“I’m learning the lyrics to ‘Caro amico ti scrivo’ by Lucio Dalla (the song is actually titled ‘L’Anno che verrà’). I’m making good progress. I want to sing it at the Dall’Ara stadium this year, too.”
That, then, appears to be Jonathan Rowe closing the door on Everton – and perhaps Aston Villa – for the time being.
He seems more than settled where he is and, crucially, focusing on further adapting for another year in Serie A at Bologna.
That is perhaps why Everton now find themselves focused on Barış Alper Yılmaz, with a report this week indicating an approved agent has been sent to Istanbul for transfer talks.
