While this will be an interesting opportunity for the Blaugranes to test themselves, the club’s plans for this preseason have been somewhat turbulent. They were expected to play two matches during the week-long training camp in England, against Birmingham City and Preston North End, however, the latter was cancelled because the Championship team did not have enough first-team players available.
Only a few days later, another of their friendlies, which was to take place in Tangiers, was cancelled, because of the migrant situation surrounding Ceuta, and the region at large.

This match will take place at St. Jakob Park in Basel, on Sunday, 16 August.
The team will travel to Switzerland for this game on the same day of the game, and then return quickly after the match. Their opponents are one of the biggest clubs in the Central European country, being managed by the former player Stephan Lichsteiner. Xherdan Shaqiri remains the most prominent player in their ranks, a graduate of the club’s youth academy who went on to have a conspicuous career in Europe.
Only a few days after this game, Barcelona will play the Joan Gamper Trophy game against Al-Ahly at the Spotify Camp Nou. This would be their last unofficial commitment of the summer, and they will begin their La Liga 2026-27 campaign on 23 August with a match against Elche. Thus, the friendly against Basel will be one of the last opportunities for Hansi Flick to fine tune his team ahead of the next season.
