European giants eye £52m Chelsea attacker as loan route emerges
Jamie Gittens has emerged as a transfer target for Roma as the Serie A side look to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s attacking options.
The Chelsea winger is one of two alternatives being considered after Roma cooled their interest in RB Leipzig forward Antonio Nusa, with a loan move potentially offering a route to Italy.

TuttomercatoWeb reports, citing Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, that Gittens has been added to Roma’s shortlist.
Gasperini wants another left-sided attacker who can carry the ball from wide areas and contribute without possession. Lyon winger Malick Fofana is also under consideration.
A permanent move for Gittens is considered difficult because of the finances involved, but Roma could explore a loan if Chelsea are prepared to consider that option.
The Blues signed Gittens from Borussia Dortmund last summer for an initial £48.5million, with the deal potentially rising to £52million.
He has remained involved throughout Xabi Alonso’s pre-season preparations and was named among the substitutes for Saturday’s 3-0 victory over AC Milan.
ReadChelsea highlighted before the Milan game that Gittens remains part of a crowded group of attacking options available to Alonso, alongside João Pedro, Estevão Willian and Liam Delap.
Gittens has previously made clear that he wants to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, so there is no indication at this stage that Chelsea are actively looking to move him on.
However, Roma’s interest gives the Blues another decision to consider before the transfer window closes.
Football Italia has also reported Roma’s interest in Gittens, adding that the Italian club’s financial restrictions make a loan considerably more realistic than a permanent transfer.
For now, Gittens remains part of Alonso’s squad. Whether Chelsea would entertain a temporary exit could depend on how the club’s attacking options develop over the final weeks of the window.
