Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso was happy with the way that his side played during their victory against AC Milan this afternoon.
Milan were put to the sword in Jakarta as Chelsea scored just before and just after half-time through Joao Pedro, adding a third through Moises Caicedo. It could have been an even bigger margin of victory had it not been for the woodwork and some good saves by Lorenzo Torriani.

While there is naturally some context surrounding the result such as the fact that Ruben Amorim chose to stagger the use of his starters, there is a bit of a worry that there are still no wins in preseason, and there were no shots on target today either.
Alonso spoke to Chelsea’s official channel after the final whistle to offer his take on the game, one that saw his side as dominant as they’ve been in any friendly so far.
How do you feel the game went?
“It was a great match, a complete performance from all the players. We know we’re adapting to many circumstances during this tour, but it was a complete performance in a great stadium with a beautiful pitch.”
Will we see more of the three-man defence?
“That’s a systemic issue. The most important things are the team’s performance, energy, and principles. Today it went well. Combinations? They did well, they were connected, we created some great chances. It’s a positive thing, but we have to keep growing; it will be exciting to continue.”
Many players got a few minutes…
“That was the idea: to get to this weekend with today’s match and tomorrow’s match against Johor so everyone can play a lot. We have a plan to follow. Tomorrow’s lineup? We decided yesterday.”
