The Las Vegas Raiders are giving signs that they're ready to tackle players other than their own teammates after Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby got into an altercation during practice. Unfortunately for them, even if they're two of the veterans on the team, they still have to receive some sort of discipline, and that's what Klint Kubiak did.
“Raiders HC Klint Kubiak told reporters that Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby are being held out of practice today for violating team rules for fighting Friday,” ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The altercation started after Crosby hit Cousins after he threw a pass. The quarterback got into Crosby's face and grabbed his jersey, and the two exchanged words.
“Those are two leaders on our team going at it,” Kubiak said. “Obviously, fighting in a game [or] you throw a punch in a game, you are out of the game. So we got to be smart.”
It's no surprise that Kubiak held the two out of practice, because that seems to be the protocol around the league when most teams start fighting each other. The more surprising thing is that it came from Cousins and Crosby, two of the leaders on both sides of the ball for the Raiders.
The offense seemed to love the fire that came from Cousins in the moment, and it's something they've seen from him since he signed with the team during the offseason.
“You want him to defend your team,” Michael Mayer said. “He's always had [that edge] since the first day I met him when he came in here.”
Crosby had been warned before camp about hitting the quarterback, and he even noted that he used to get kicked out of practice in college for doing so.
