Everton and Crystal Palace are in talks over a potential swap deal involving Dwight McNeil and Brennan Johnson, according to The Times. Everton manager David Moyes is open to letting McNeil leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium club after a move to Selhurst Park fell through in January. The Eagles had agreed a loan deal with a £20 million obligation to buy for the Toffees winger, but talks collapsed late in the winter transfer deadline day. Palace remain keen on McNeil, and Everton want Johnson in return.
However, a potential switch is complicated due to both club’s different valuation for both wingers. The club are yet to reach an agreement and it is unknown whether one is on the cards. Everton want attacking reinforcements and Johnson is a target due to Palace’s interest in McNeil. The Wales international joined the Eagles from Tottenham Hotspur in a £35m deal in January. However, he struggled to impress upon the move, failing to score in 26 appearances. Johnson was an unused substitute in their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano, but the Toffees admire what he brings to the table.
The 25-year-old bagged 18 goals and four assists in 51 games in 2024-25, and Moyes will fancy his chances of getting the Welshman to start firing on all cylinders again should he join Everton.
