Everton player ratings: Wasteful finishing costs Blues in Stuttgart
Everton fell to a 3-1 defeat in Stuttgart in their final German warm-up, with the finishing badly letting down a decent overall display. Here’s how each player rated.
Mark Travers — 7
Kept Everton in the contest for long spells with a string of strong saves, including denying Stuttgart from close range on multiple occasions. Could easily have been picking the ball out three or four times without his intervention.
Merlin Röhl — 6
Continued his conversion to right-back with some encouraging moments going forward, setting up several good chances that his forwards failed to convert. Still raw defensively in the position.
Jake O’Brien — 5
An uncomfortable outing in an unfamiliar central role, lasting only around 17 minutes there before being moved. A reminder of why right-back remains his more natural fit.
Jarrad Branthwaite — 5
Wore the captain’s armband but had a mixed afternoon, with a mistake in the build-up to Stuttgart’s opener taking the shine off an otherwise assured display on the ball.
Vitalii Mykolenko — 5
Offered little going forward and struggled to influence the game from left-back, with his delivery into the box lacking quality throughout.
Tim Iroegbunam — 6
Forced off early with what appeared to be an injury, making it difficult to judge his performance on the limited evidence available.
Hayden Hackney — 6
A steady if unremarkable outing following his move from Middlesbrough, with occasional bright moments but not yet fully up to speed.
Harrison Armstrong — 7
One of Everton’s better performers, composed on the ball and looking increasingly like a player who could feature regularly this season.
Tyler Dibling — 8
Arguably Everton’s standout performer, showing more confidence and end product than in recent outings and repeatedly getting the better of his marker.
Charly Alcaraz — 7
A bright, energetic display out of position on the left, creating several chances that his forwards were unable to finish.
Beto — 3
A frustrating afternoon in front of goal, missing a series of presentable chances, including one glaring opportunity with the goal gaping.
Substitutes
Michael Keane — 5
Part of a shaky defensive collective, and directly at fault for Stuttgart’s third goal with a loose clearance.
Thierno Barry — 8
Made an instant impact after replacing Beto, winning and converting the penalty that briefly gave Everton hope of a comeback.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall — 6
Nearly had a telling impact in stoppage time, heading narrowly wide from a corner in what was otherwise a brief cameo.
Tom King, Nathan Patterson, Adam Aznou, Tyrique George, Iliman Ndiaye, James Tarkowski, Mackenzie Foster — 5
Each given only brief minutes late on, with nothing of note either way to separate them.
