Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero is reportedly waiting to see if Barcelona show an interest in signing him this summer.
The update comes as Liverpool push to complete a deal for Barca star Ronaldo Araujo over the next couple of days.
Romero’s future at Tottenham has been the subject of speculation for several weeks, with several reports claiming that the Argentina international will leave the club before the transfer window closes.
The 28-year-old has been given an extended summer break after featuring for Argentina at the World Cup on their run to the final last month, and is reportedly a player of interest to several clubs.
Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are reported to have shown a desire to sign Romero, with suggestions that a deal for either club could still be on the cards.
Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo have reported that Atletico are the most likely club to sign Romero, but there is said to have been a delay in the transfer going ahead.
The report claims that Romero is waiting to see if Barcelona make a push to sign him before the transfer window closes before committing his future to either Atletico or Inter.
Barcelona are about to allow Araujo to leave the club to join Liverpool on loan, which could open up a spot at the Camp Nou for a new central defender to join the La Liga giants.

As a result, Romero is reported to be waiting for Barca to formalise Araujo’s exit and see if that results in the Spanish club pursuing a deal for his signature as the Uruguay international’s replacement.
Tottenham have strengthened their defensive options this summer ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, with continuous rumours that Romero is expected to leave the club.
Jan Paul van Hecke was signed on a permanent deal from Brighton earlier in the summer, while Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have both arrived on free transfers following the expiration of the contracts at their respective clubs.
