Napoli continue to monitor Benoît Badiashile, while Tosin Adarabioyo could leave despite joining only recently. Malo Gusto, valued at around £75 million, has emerged as another possible departure. Manchester City have reportedly shown interest alongside links involving Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez. Elsewhere, Dario Essugo is open to a loan, Coventry City want Mykhailo Mudryk following his anti-doping clearance, while Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson have entered fresh transfer discussions.
Alonso won’t compromise on structure. His preferred 3-4-2-1 system depends on defenders who stay composed in possession and break opposition lines with accurate passing. That explains why Badiashile has slipped down the pecking order despite his physical qualities. Chelsea need centre-backs comfortable carrying responsibility with the ball instead of simply defending their own box.
Maxence Lacroix fits that profile. His distribution should give Chelsea cleaner build-up phases, while Gusto is expected to drift inside beside Enzo Fernandez, creating an extra midfielder during possession. Higher up the pitch, Cole Palmer and Pedro look far better suited to quick combinations between the lines than constant isolation against full-backs.
Managing 46 senior professionals across one season creates selection issues every week. Players left outside matchday squads quickly become frustrated, training standards suffer and dressing-room harmony starts to fade. Alonso needs a smaller group where every player understands his role.
Some names linked with exits still delivered respectable numbers last season. Pedro Neto made 34 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and supplying six assists during the 2025/26 campaign. Badiashile featured in eight league matches despite limited opportunities. Those figures show Chelsea aren’t pushing average players towards the exit. They’re trying to build a squad where every place has a clear tactical purpose, even if that means talented footballers must continue their careers elsewhere.
