The Calgary Stampeders are mourning the death of former running back Rick Galbos. He was 75.

Galbos, an Ohio native, played for Ohio State and won a co-national championship with the Buckeyes in 1970 before being drafted in 1973 by Washington of the National Football League.

He soon signed with the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders and was traded to the Stamps before his first professional season.

He suited up in No. 21 for the Red and White from 1973-77. Galbos was primarily used as a blocker for Canadian Football Hall of Famer Willie Burden, who rushed for 1,896 yards in 1975, a single-season franchise record which still stands.

Galbos’ personal stats included 277 rushes for 1,244 yards and three touchdowns along with 172 receptions for 2,016 yards and eight more scores.

He later played six games for the Montreal Alouettes after joining the team during the 1977 season and would go on to win the Grey Cup later that year.

Following his retirement from football, Galbos resided in Calgary and worked in the construction industry. He was a member of the Calgary Stampeder Alumni Association and served as an assistant coach for the University of Calgary Dinos.
