During the Philadelphia Eagles‘ August 8 practice on Saturday, the veteran running back Dameon Pierce was seen leaving the action and going to the medical tent.
The details of his setback–including the severity of it–are unclear at this time.

A setback is the last thing that Pierce needs at this time.
As one of the many players fighting for a spot on the roster, Pierce has a decent opportunity in front of him to force the Eagles to keep him.
In a recent rundown of player stocks through the first week and a half of training camp action, Philly Voice’s Jimmy Kempski has kept Pierce on the roster bubble heading into the Saturday afternoon action.

However, the veteran running back Will Shipley saw his stock drop. Before, Shipley might’ve been viewed as a lock for the Eagles, as he was seen as solid depth behind the No. 2 Tank Bigsby, along with being a productive special-teamer, but there is some doubt creeping in.
“Shipley didn’t impress enough during camp a year ago, so the Eagles traded for Tank Bigsby,” Kempski wrote. “This year he hasn’t made many plays and he had a brutal drop when he was schemed wide open on a wheel route down the field.”
The Eagles insider was complimentary of Pierce, who is far from a lock.
“Dameon Pierce has looked intriguing at times. Shipley has a leg up because the team drafted him and they’d like to see him pan out, but on merit Pierce has been better so far,” he wrote.

The former University of Florida running back entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick in 2022. He started his career with the Houston Texans.
Although Pierce rushed for 939 yards in his first season in just 13 games, his production dropped dramatically over the next two years.
The Texans cut ties with Pierce amid the 2025 NFL season. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs, appearing in just one game. The veteran running back took on one carry for 10 yards.
The Eagles invested little in Pierce this offseason, signing him to a one-year deal. He doesn’t have the homegrown edge over Shipley, but he’s gaining steam behind Bigsby. As long as his mysterious setback isn’t anything long-term, he has a real shot to crack the roster.
