The Commanders are set to open the season without their starting left tackle. Laremy Tunsil suffered a triceps tear during practice today, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Steve Wyche report.
The injury will likely require surgery, per the report. Tunsil is now on track to miss “at least a significant portion” of the 2026 campaign given today’s news. Washington’s offensive line would be significantly shorthanded in that event.
Earlier today, the Commanders made a pair of additions up front in the form of Daniel Brunskill and Nicholas Petit-Frere with testing on Tunsil still pending. Backup options will now be counted upon into the fall to handle left tackle duties. ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds Washington is still gathering information to determine a firm timeline. Nevertheless, a lengthy absence appears to be in store.
More to come…
