Badiashile Napoli Transfer: Napoli have stepped up their pursuit of Chelsea centre-back Benoît Badiashile as they search for defensive cover before the transfer window closes. French outlet Foot Mercato reports that the Serie A giants have made the 25-year-old one of their priority targets after Alessandro Buongiorno’s serious knee injury left Massimiliano Allegri short of options at the back.
Chelsea are open to reducing an overloaded defensive group, and Badiashile has emerged as one of the players available for the right price. Even so, negotiations have reached an awkward stage. Napoli prefer an initial loan, while Chelsea want stronger guarantees before allowing the Frenchman to leave. Discussions have included a conditional obligation to buy, although both clubs still value the overall package differently.
Money sits at the centre of the talks. Napoli are reluctant to commit to a large upfront fee, whereas Chelsea have little interest in another temporary departure without realistic protection on a future transfer. If an agreement proves impossible, Napoli already have an alternative lined up, with former West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd, now at Marseille, under consideration.
Badiashile featured only eight times in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season, playing 472 minutes without scoring or providing an assist after injuries interrupted another difficult campaign.
Chelsea have little reason to rush
Chelsea’s stance makes sense. Xabi Alonso inherited a squad packed with central defenders, and Maxence Lacroix’s arrival has pushed Badiashile even further down the pecking order. Reports suggest the French defender no longer features in the manager’s plans, yet that doesn’t mean Chelsea should accept an undervalued offer simply to clear space.
Selling on sensible terms protects the club’s investment and avoids setting another poor precedent in the transfer market. That’s especially relevant after several expensive squad rebuilds over recent seasons.
Why Napoli remain interested
The Badiashile Napoli Transfer carries genuine tactical appeal. Allegri needs a naturally left-footed defender who can play through pressure, dominate aerial duels and slot comfortably into a disciplined back line. Badiashile checks those boxes despite his recent struggles. His reported 95% short-passing accuracy under pressure suits Napoli’s build-up play, while a compact defensive shape would reduce the demand for recovery pace in open spaces.
Chelsea reportedly value a permanent package close to €30 million. Napoli are still pushing for a €3 million loan with a €15 million purchase option. That gap remains sizeable, though Foot Mercato’s report makes one point clear: interest is real, discussions continue, and Chelsea’s crowded defence leaves little room for a player who has slipped firmly out of favour.
