Kyle Shanahan Had Car In Auto Pilot During Crash
In a major reveal about the car crash that left Kyle Shanahan seriously injured, he claimed his Tesla was on autopilot at the time he stop looking at the road.
According to the 49ers‘ head coach, his phone fell out of reach while he was traveling about 20 mph, so he trusted the car’s autopilot enough to look away.
He isn’t blaming Tesla, but still has no idea what happened — whether autopilot malfunctioned or he accidentally disengaged it.

The wreck taught Shanahan a major lesson, explaining, “You can’t take your eyes off the road. It’s a partnership driving — you don’t just turn it over to a computer.”
Shanahan, as previously reported, took full responsibility for the July 14 crash. He said he looked away for just a couple seconds before his car crossed the double yellow line.
According to Palo Alto Police, a state database initially blaming the other driver was incorrect — and Shanahan was at fault.
Shanahan sustained a serious concussion, rib fractures, a broken nose, a broken hand, and 40 stitches in his face as a result of the wreck. Kyle came dangerously close to losing his right eye, according to his close friend Chris Simms.
