What Andoni Iraola privately told Ronaldo Araujo to convince him to move to Liverpool

Liverpool’s shock move for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has generated a lot of chatter on social media.

The Uruguayan defender is set to move to Anfield on a season-long loan deal with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season.

Araujo is an experienced campaigner for club and country but has struggled with poor form and injuries over the past 18 months.

Liverpool will look to rejuvenate his career, and reports from Spain suggest that’s exactly what Andoni Iraola has in mind.

Araujo’s phone call with Iraola before Liverpool move

Sport report that Iraola had a direct phone call with the experienced defender to convince him to move to Anfield.

Araujo was told he could form a ‘top-level’ central defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk, who the Uruguayan has already described as his idol previously.

The call reportedly happened on Wednesday, and shortly afterwards, the mainstream media, led by Fabrizio Romano, reported that he would be joining Liverpool.

With Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez injured, the Barcelona loanee could be thrown into the deep end straight away.

Jeremy Jacquet is yet to feature in pre-season as he continues to get to grips with English football, so Araujo may be in line for a start against Newcastle United in two weeks time.
