Hansi Flick reveals why Barcelona agreed to loan Ronald Araujo to Liverpool
Ronald Araujo’s loan move to Liverpool came out of absolutely nowhere.
When Fabrizio Romano broke the exclusive on his X account, a lot of fans actually checked to see if they got baited by a parody account, as there wasn’t even a mention of this being on the cards.
However, it quickly became clear that the Reds moved to secure Araujo on loan as they see him as an experienced figure who is capable of playing as a right back and a central defender.
And now, ahead of his move to Merseyside, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has revealed why they sanctioned the deal.
Araujo out of favour at Barcelona
With Pau Cubarsi, Andreas Christensen, Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia, Alvaro Cortes and Jules Kounde all capable of playing at the heart of the backline, Araujo wasn’t one of Flick’s preferred starters.
In fact, he started just 11 LaLiga games last season as Barcelona won the title.
As relayed by Romano, Flick says the Uruguayan was only allowed to move on loan because he couldn’t guarantee him game time this season.

“Ronald is a good player and a good person. For me, he’s a player with a lot of speed and physicality,” said the Barcelona boss.
“We haven’t been able to include him as much as we would have liked.”
Araujo hasn’t been at his best recently, but Liverpool will hope a change of scenario, coupled with playing alongside Virgil van Dijk, will bring the best out of the Uruguayan.
