‘Arsenal’s interest is real’ – Arteta pushing for Tottenham player

Arsenal are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur‘s Cristian Romero this summer, according to multiple claims.

On July 25th, we relayed news of the Premier League winners’ interest in the centre-back.

Since then, Inter Milan agreed a €40m deal with Tottenham while Atlético Madrid have re-entered the race, after last summer’s failure.

Arsenal are in the battle to sign the Argentina international. Several reports from Spain, Argentina and Italy now cover the latest on the Gunners.

Arsenal behind Atlético

TyC Sports journalist Gastón Edul has good ties with several Argentine players and their agenda.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report Inter Milan’s agreement with Tottenham Hotspur but are yet to agree terms with the defender.

Spurs have already rejected the La Liga side’s initial €30m bid. Atlético Madrid are ready to make an improved offer to match the one proposed by the Serie A winners.

According to Edul, ‘Arsenal’s interest in Cristian Romero is real’. The Gunnes seem to be behind Los Rojiblancos, who are the most active in the transfer race.

Arsenal updates from Italy

On Friday, the Italian media reported Lautaro Martínez called his compatriot to convince him to join Inter Milan.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà dismisses it and adds Atlético Madrid, the Gunners and Barcelona are battling for the Spurs star.

Diego Simeone’s side are offering Cristian Romero a salary of €6m net per and are getting close to Tottenham Hotspur’s €40m demand.

Pedullà states: ‘Arsenal are also in the running, with Arteta pressing and in action in the last few hours. As already mentioned, relations with Spurs, which have been frosty for years, need to be repaired, but the player is very attractive.’

Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo is edging closer towards joining Liverpool and this could see them join the battle for the 28-year-old. He has several options and has to decide his next destination.

How Gunners can sign Tottenham defender

According to El Desmarque, the English champions have contacted Cristian Romero’s agent. Roberto De Zerbi’s side, for their part, are refusing to sell him to their local rival.

Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s stance, Mikel Arteta’s side can still sign him by activating his clause.

El Desmarque states: ‘The only way Romero could leave Tottenham to join Arsenal would be by paying his release clause, which amounts to £55m [€64.2m] for Premier League teams, although Arsenal is preparing to submit an offer.’
