Liverpool have NOT reached an agreement in principle to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Addressing the claims on his YouTube channel, Romano said that negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with “no breakthrough” so far:
“People are saying [that] Barcola [to] Liverpool is a done deal; it’s a ‘here we go’ – €128m. At the moment, nothing is done. Nothing.”
“You know, I’ve been here for months telling you Liverpool want Barcola. Liverpool will go for Barcola. Barcola is top target. Barcola is not untouchable.”
“So I spent the whole summer telling you that Liverpool were trying for Barcola, but at the same time I always told you financially they need to reach an agreement between the clubs, and obviously it’s a big financial package. So it’s on Liverpool to decide whether they can reach an agreement financially or not. Now the negotiation is ongoing. PSG and Liverpool keep talking, but at the moment there is still no breakthrough in talks.”
Liverpool are lining up another offer
Reports in the French media claim that the Merseysiders are set to table a bid of around €115m (£98.5m) for Barcola. That proposal is expected to be rejected.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has already made an opening bid worth €100m (£86m), but both offers are considerably below PSG’s valuation.
How much do PSG want for Barcola?
At the moment, the European champions are holding out for a fee in the region of €150m (£128.5m) EXCLUDING bonuses, which is an eyewatering number that no team is likely willing to pay.
Liverpool are continuing to hold discussions, which suggests they are still optimistic that a compromise can be reached, but they have to be mindful of other clubs swooping in and hijacking the deal.
Arsenal have lost out on Vinicius Jr and they have shown interest in Barcola previously, so that will put the pressure on Hughes to wrap up a deal for the Frenchman sooner rather than later.
