Please Get Healthy

Future Hall of Famer?

Joe doesn’t think there is any question about it. The best player on the Bucs is a guy who may touch the ball once every seven years or so.

That would be left tackle Tristan Wirfs. He has touched the ball in a game just once. He caught a touchdown pass last year, his first and maybe his only touchdown.

But Wirfs is a beast. He’s the only player in NFL history to be named All-Pro at both left and right tackle. Noted offensive line analyst Brandon Short drools over Wirfs, as do many Bucs fans. When healthy, he’s that damn good.

Folicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN is looking at what current NFL players could be enshrined in Canton someday, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Billy thinks if Wirfs can stay healthy, that’s where his NFL days will end.

> **Keep it up:** OT Tristan Wirfs

> Wirfs missed time with a knee injury last season and had more hiccups than usual in the weeks after returning, but he would still be the first pick if you were drafting any left tackle to dominate the league over the next decade. Let’s hope that the hamstring injury he reportedly suffered at the start of training camp doesn’t linger into the season.

Wirfs, by the insane standards he has set for himself, was not his normal dominant self. Oh, he had some excellent games last year.

His game at Seattle is one that Joe will remember for a long time. He just snowplowed people in the run game, clearing paths for Rachaad White to score a pair of touchdowns.

Joe personally thinks Wirfs was off from his first game against the Eagles. Remember, he missed the first three games last year because he had offseason knee surgery.

Hopefully this hamstring Wirfs suffered in a conditioning run right before training camp heals soon. KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles hasn’t yet ruled out Wirfs practicing this week in New Jersey against the Jets.

The last thing the Bucs need is for Wirfs to play at 70 percent with a nagging hamstring injury the entire season.
