Fabrizio Romano provides update on Liverpool player after he was left out of squad vs Monaco

Liverpool are set to take on Monaco in their fourth pre-season friendly under Andoni Iraola.

The Spaniard is set for his first-ever game at Anfield and with the Premier League season edging closer, the game could serve as a bit of a dress rehearsal for the real deal, which is in less than two weeks from now.

Liverpool have named a strong lineup, with Virgil van Dijk making his first appearance in pre-season and also captaining the club.

Curtis Jones was a notable absentee from the matchday squad as fans began to speculate about his future.

And now, the Liverpool Echo have clarified his absence.

Curtis Jones’ omission from Liverpool squad purely precautionary

Ian Doyle has confirmed that Jones’ omission is purely precautionary, although there have been no reports of an injury or even a knock.

We’d like to think the news is true as Reds can’t afford to lose any bodies in midfield without signing new players.

Fabrizio Romano has also had his say on the matter. He wrote on X: “Curtis Jones, out of Liverpool squad today as he’s not even on the bench.

“#LFC informs it’s a precaution for the midfielder still wanted by Inter (priority target) and more clubs this summer.”

The Italian has pretty much relayed the Liverpool Echo’s claim, but judging by his wording, he is still an active target for Inter Milan and other clubs.

Hopefully Iraola will clarify what happened with Jones before or after the game, as there are a lot of fans who want to know what’s gone on here.
