Leicester City starlet Louis Page has interest from the Premier League and Manchester United have opened talks with the League One side, according to Sami Mokbel of the BBC.
Leicester City have already lost a top prospect in the form of Jeremy Monga this summer. Monga has joined Manchester City and now LCFC could be preparing to lose another of their top academy graduates.
Sami Mokbel of the BBC is reporting that Louis Page is attracting a lot of interest from the Premier League. Manchester United have made the first move in the race to sign Page, ahead of their rivals Arsenal and Aston Villa.
The 18-year-old has made 22 senior appearances for Leicester City already in his career. However, he has rejected a new deal this summer, but is already on a professional deal with LCFC.
The situation has unsurprisingly attracted interest. English and Scottish sides are keen on Page, as are teams in Germany’s Bundesliga and Serie A in Italy.
Leicester City will have hoped Page would continue his development through the club’s academy ranks at the King Power Stadium. However, with his promising career now seemingly at a crossroads, the teenager appears to have decided that pursuing a new challenge elsewhere is the best option.
Despite only turning 18 in July, Page has already established himself as a regular at age groups above his own. He has made 21 appearances for the U18s, contributing two goals and three assists, while also featuring 19 times for the U21s and registering two goals and four assists.
His ability to make an impact against older opposition bodes well for his long-term prospects. Unfortunately for Leicester, though, Page’s development now appears likely to continue away from the King Power Stadium.
Given he is already on a professional deal. Leicester City are in a stronger position than they were for Monga’s sale. Manchester United, or any other suitor, would need to come to a direct agreement with LCFC.
The Verdict: Page should avoid the Premier League move and be a part of Leicester City’s promotion push
There is no doubt that Page will be interested in a move to a Premier League side this summer. However, he has a perfect opportunity to continue his progression at Leicester City this upcoming campaign.
LCFC were relegated to League One last year and are rebuilding as a club under Russell Martin. Page has a chance to cement himself as a first-team regular in the 3rd tier, under a manager who wants his side to play attractive football.
As a creative midfielder, the idea of playing under Martin should be a very attractive one for Page. If Leicester City trust him to be a regular this season, then in the long-term it would be perfect for Page, who will likely get many more top-flight offers in his future.
