Liverpool set for imminent breakthrough in talks to sign €192k-a-week superstar

Liverpool remain in talks with PSG over the signing of Bradley Barcola and are set to receive a boost in their pursuit of the Frenchman due to Ferran Torres’ imminent arrival at the Parc des Princes.

When news broke this week that Torres had reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit, it was seen as a good sign that Barcola will soon be given the green light to make the move to Anfield.

It appears, without a concrete report to back my claim, that PSG are waiting for their signings to be made before allowing the Frenchman to leave.

Liverpool have been in talks with PSG for several weeks now, but are still yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee, with widespread reports stating that it will take an offer of around £145m to secure his signature.

Now, fresh claims suggest that Torres’ arrival in Paris will see PSG make concessions on their valuation of Barcola.

Liverpool active in negotiations with PSG as Ferran Torres deal could reduce price for Bradley Barcola

Reporting on X, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Liverpool feel confident about their chances of agreeing a deal to sign Barcola.

“Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola is active and they feel in control of the negotiations,” Jacobs began.

Jacobs then added that Torres’ arrival at PSG will likely mean it will be easier to get a deal done for Barcola.

“If Torres arrives for PSG, I suspect that €170m number might come down by €20-30m. Liverpool’s starting point is more around the €100m mark.

“Again, that could come up by €10-15m. As a result, the big gulf in valuation, as it appears now, might not be the case as the month of August progresses, which is why I think Liverpool hold some optimism that Barcola is possible.”

Barcola will transform Liverpool’s attack

One thing that was clear when Liverpool faced AS Monaco on Sunday in their penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer is that adding Barcola to the Reds’ front three will see a massive change in their counter-attacking abilities.

Cody Gakpo is a good player and more than good enough to play for Liverpool, but he simply isn’t an elite winger. Barcola already is, and being four years younger, his ceiling is a lot higher too.

While Liverpool are confident of reaching an agreement on personal terms with Barcola, it’s unclear how much he will earn, given his current wage with PSG is €192,000 per week (£164k/week).
